Mahala Gross
The Mahala bag is named after Mahala Gross was born in 1797 in Surry, North Carolina, her father, Simon, was 27, and her mother, Sarah, was 14. She married Sherrell Buck Chappell on August 30, 1823, in Yadkin, North Carolina. They had 13 children in 22 years. She died in 1880 in Yadkin, North Carolina, having lived a long life of 83 years.
