Janey Laverne Smith
When Janey Laverne Smith was born on August 4, 1943, in Hood, Texas, her father, Alvis, was 39, and her mother, Thea, was 35. She married Bobby Lynn Brooks on March 2, 1962, in Tolar, Texas. They had two children during their marriage. She died in 2021 at the age of 78, and was buried in Tolar, Texas.  My Aunt Janey was so much fun and a real go-getter.  Some of my fondest memories are riding around on the farm in her jeep, letting us swim in the water tank, and shelling peas.   Janey was a strong and devout Christian woman who tragically lost her son and grandson way to soon.   I admired the strength and grace she exhibited throughout the grieving process of loss and life in general.   You can purchase your very own Janey bag here....

Lyndel Grace “Linnie” Millington: The Artistic Heart & Pillar of Strength
Lyndel Grace “Linnie” Millington: The Artistic Heart & Pillar of Strength Born on March 20, 1887, in Hood, Texas, Lyndel Grace Millington — lovingly known as Linnie — was a woman of remarkable creativity and inner strength. The daughter of Ira and Susan Catherine Cook Millington, she married Lawrence Alexander “Alec” Brooks on May 26, 1905, in Tolar, Texas. Life brought deep challenges. In 1910, both her husband Alec and her father Ira passed away. Then in 1915, she lost her young daughter, Artie Maria. Through these sorrows, Linnie and her mother Susan Catherine raised my grandfather, Leslie Scott Brooks, with love, resilience, and faith. Even in hardship, Linnie’s artistic spirit shone brightly. She was a gifted painter, quilter, and crocheter. A charcoal drawing of puppies she created still hangs in my living room beside her photograph — a daily reminder of her gentle talent and loving heart. Those who knew her called her Linnie — a name full of warmth and affection. Linnie passed away on October 5, 1960, in Tolar, Texas, at the age of 73. As my great-grandmother on my father’s side, her legacy of artistry, strength, and devotion continues to inspire the Lyndel Grace / Linnie’s Artistry Collection at Sweet Bella Bags. Each bag is handcrafted in Texas with the same care and creativity that Linnie poured into her own artwork. Shop the Lyndel Grace Collection

Addie Belle Atwell Cox Born on a cold winter’s day, December 29, 1884, in Rowan County, North Carolina, Addie Belle Atwell entered the world with a name that would be passed down through generations as a symbol of grace and strength. The daughter of Richard and Vira Atwell, she married her sweetheart, Caleb Hamilton Cox, on June 9, 1902, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Together they built a large and loving family, raising nine children over 22 years of marriage. Addie Belle lived a life rooted in resilience, devotion, and quiet determination during a time of great change in America. Oleta Belle: A Legacy of Strength, Faith & Unbreakable Love
Oleta Belle: A Legacy of Strength, Faith & Unbreakable Love Oleta Belle Campbell was born on April 6, 1912, in the small town of Tolar, Texas. Her father David was 47 and her mother Lillie was 38. On November 27, 1929, she married Leslie Scott Brooks in Tipton, Oklahoma. Together they raised three children and built a life rooted in love, hard work, and deep faith. Oleta Belle was my paternal grandmother, and she was one of the strongest women I have ever known. Her life was marked by profound loss when her son, Colonel William Leslie Brooks, was shot down in Vietnam. He was listed as Missing in Action (MIA) and never returned home. Instead of breaking under unimaginable grief, Oleta Belle stood tall. With unwavering dignity and fierce determination, she battled our government for answers and accountability. Her strong faith carried her through the darkest days, and her courage continues to inspire our entire family. The name “Belle” carries deep meaning in our family. It was passed down through generations — from Addie Belle to Oleta Belle, and then to me, Evelyn Belle. It represents the grace and resilience we strive to carry forward. At Sweet Bella Bags, we honor my grandmother’s incredible spirit with the Oleta Belle Collection. These bags are designed for the strong, loving, and determined women who carry life’s heaviest burdens with grace — just as Oleta Belle did. Mahala: The Pioneer Woman Behind the Mahala Collection In the rolling hills of Surry, North Carolina, around 1740, a woman named Mahala was born. Together, they built a life and raised eight children. In an era of hardship, westward expansion, and uncertainty, Mahala embodied the pioneering spirit — caring for her family, adapting to change, and creating a legacy that would echo through generations.
