Axie Ann Brooks: The Resilient Pioneer Grandmother Behind the Axie Ann Collection
Born on November 10, 1873, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Axie Ann Brooks entered the world during a time of great change. The daughter of Columbus and Samantha Brooks, she later married Joseph Bowers and together they raised a large family — five children together.
Axie Ann’s life was one of movement and resilience. She left Kentucky and eventually settled in Texas, where she lived out her days in Wilbarger County. She passed away on June 18, 1956, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 82, and was laid to rest in Eastview Memorial Park.
As my great-Aunt, Axie Ann represents the strong, pioneering women in our family line — those who faced hardship, moved across states, raised big families, and built new lives with determination and grace.
At Sweet Bella Bags, we honor her memory with the Axie Ann Collection. These bags are designed to reflect the same qualities she embodied — durable, practical, and full of quiet strength — perfect for carrying life’s journey with resilience and style.
