Joetta George: My Aunt Joe – The Hardest Working, Most Loving Woman I Ever Knew
Born on February 7, 1937, in Hamilton, Texas, Joetta George was the daughter of Eugene and Evelyn George. She married Charles Massey and together they raised three sons and two daughters, and later helped raise four grandchildren.
To me, she was simply Aunt Joe — and she will always hold a very special place in my heart.
Aunt Joe was the hardest working person I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She was incredibly selfless, taking care of her own mother in her home while also tending to her four grandchildren. She was giving, funny, full of life, and absolutely loved cooking delicious meals for her family. Her kitchen was always warm, and her heart was even bigger.
She faced life’s challenges with grace and strength, always putting others before herself. Her love, energy, and work ethic left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Aunt Joetta passed away on April 11, 2014, at the age of 77. She is deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in our family every single day.

In the rolling hills of Surry, North Carolina, around 1740, a woman named Mahala was born. She would grow into a symbol of strength, resilience, and quiet determination during the early, challenging years of America.
Mahala married William Yates around 1760. Together, they built a life and raised eight children. In an era of hardship, westward expansion, and uncertainty, Mahala embodied the pioneering spirit — caring for her family, adapting to change, and creating a legacy that would echo through generations.
