Lillie Loucretia Atwell: The Devoted Mother of 15 & Pillar of Our Family

Born on December 21, 1873, in Mooresville, North Carolina, Lillie Loucretia Atwell was the daughter of Richard and Vira Atwell. On March 18, 1888, in Iredell County, North Carolina, she married David Taylor Campbell. Together they built a large and loving family, raising 15 children over 28 years — an extraordinary feat of love, strength, and dedication.

Lillie Loucretia later moved with her family to Hood County, Texas, where she spent the rest of her life. She passed away on August 21, 1959, in Hood, Texas, at the age of 85, and was laid to rest in Tolar, Texas.

As my great-grandmother on my father’s side, Lillie Loucretia represents the deep roots of motherhood, resilience, and family devotion in our lineage. Raising 15 children in an era of great challenge took incredible strength, patience, and faith — qualities that continue to inspire our family today.

At Sweet Bella Bags, we honor her legacy with the Lillie Lou Collection. These bags are created in tribute to her enduring spirit — practical, beautiful, and made with the same care and love she gave to her large family.

Mahala: The Pioneer Woman Behind the Mahala Collection In the rolling hills of Surry, North Carolina, around 1740, a woman named Mahala was born. She would grow into a symbol of strength, resilience, and quiet determination during the early, challenging years of America. Mahala married William Yates around 1760. Together, they built a life and raised eight children. In an era of hardship, westward expansion, and uncertainty, Mahala embodied the pioneering spirit — caring for her family, adapting to change, and creating a legacy that would echo through generations. At Sweet Bella Bags, we honor Mahala’s enduring strength with the Mahala Collection. Just as she turned challenges into a lasting family foundation, each bag in this collection is handcrafted in Texas from premium leather with thoughtful functionality — including multiple pockets, card slots, and optional conceal carry. These crossbody and shoulder bags are more than accessories. They are daily reminders of the courage and grace passed down through our family line. The name “Mahala” continues to inspire us — a tribute to the women who came before and the values we carry forward. Shop the Mahala Collection
